WHO IS ELIGBLE TO SUBMIT WORK?
We are seeking artworks by women artists who are either from or currently living or working in Northern Ireland. We are keen to include works from a range of artists - well known and emerging artists alike. If you have any questions about your eligibility, please contact us.
WHAT TYPE OF ARTWORK IS TO BE INCLUDED?
We welcome submissions from painters, artists who use drawing media, print makers and sculptors. To allow us to include as many art works as the space allows, the maximum size for hung pieces is 36” x 36” framed.
IS THERE A PARTICULAR THEME?
The title of this exhibition is inspired by the following words taken from Maya Angelou’s ‘I know why the caged bird sings’,
“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you”
Angelou’s words have particular relevance today when we think about the impact of the #METOO movement or how more women are making their voices heard about issues that matter to them.
We all have our own untold stories, some of inequality and exploitation but others of hope, love and wonder.
We want to use the, albeit small, platform we have here at The Hallows Gallery, to continue that dialogue and contribute to the continued growth of a community where women’s voices and art are celebrated equally and on their own merit.
So, in terms of subject matter, there are no specific themes or styles we are looking for. Rather we are seeking art where the artist has created something honest and true – where she has told her own story.
HOW DO I SUBMIT WORK?
Please email us at email@example.com no later than 5pm on Friday 2 March 2018. Please include the following information with your email:
You will need to attach an image of at least one piece of art that you would like to be included, but feel free to include up to five images. Please tell us something about it, including its title, medium and dimensions. We would also ask that you provide a rough estimate of the market price of your piece based on previous sales where applicable. This is to allow us to ensure that we have artworks at a range of price points throughout the show.
2. CV or Artist’s Statement
Where possible, please send us a brief resume, detailing your artistic background including any study and/or previous exhibitions. Alternatively, you can include a brief written statement telling us a bit about you, your work and any previous experience you may have had.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
DUE TO THE EXCEPTIONALLY HIGH NUMBERS OF SUBMISSIONS RECEIVED, IT WILL TAKE LONGER THAN PLANNED TO REVIEW EACH PIECE PROPERLY. WE WILL ENDEAVOUR TO CONTACT ALL ARTISTS BY SUNDAY 10TH OF MARCH. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR PATIENCE.
HOW IS MY WORK PRICED?
After selection, we will work with exhibiting artists to price each piece fairly, taking into account previous sales, sales of comparable works as well as current market trends. Commission rates and full terms and conditions will be discussed once artwork has been selected.
DOES MY WORK NEED TO BE FRAMED?
We would expect most hung pieces to be framed with the exception of some paintings on stretched canvas. If artwork needs to be framed before it can go on display, The Hallows Gallery will offer a special rate for exhibiting artists.
There is no obligation on the artist to have their work framed by The Hallows Gallery. However, as Fine Art Trade Guild Members and Certified Framers, it is important that all artwork on display at The Hallows Gallery is professionally and appropriately framed.
If you have any questions that we’ve not covered here, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
